Some of the NEVERs in my practice in working with clients with migraines and headaches (and other medical conditions).

  • Never work with clients without gaining permission to use hypnosis and inform them of the benefits and risks of hypnosis.
  • Never diagnose the type of headache or cause of the headache.
  • Never make medication or supplement recommendations.
  • Never work with clients who report new or unfamiliar headaches, sudden onset of unique headaches, those with changes in intensity or severity, or who have a history of head/brain injury without also clearly instructing them to seek medical diagnosis and treatment from a licensed healthcare provider.
  • Never fear working with headache clients as I always remain in my scope of practice. That scope of practice is, “I help people learn and apply the skills of stress management, relaxation response, mindfulness, and self-hypnosis to find relief from the distress of experiencing headaches. I do not treat, diagnose, assess, or prescribe medication, and I ask that clients consult with a licensed healthcare provider for evaluation in addition to the work that we do together.”
